Our treasured family celebrity cat Kato is in need of your help. He is currently in hospital facing surgery tomorrow, after having spent 2 weeks in our local vets being treated for a blocked bladder (for the 4th time!). Kato is world famous.....if you google him he comes up straight away, due to his celeb status gained from a documentary for BBC2 Horizon, named "Secret Life of the Cat" filmed in 2012, which has been sold all over the world to well over 60 countries. Kato's photo is the main publicity shot used for the series. It is still being broadcast around the world. We received no royalties.

Although always a very cool, calm and adventurous cat (which is why we put him forward) he has always been plagued by urinary tract problems, resulting in a blocked bladder which can be lethal for a cat (or probably anyone else!). Kato was admitted to our local vets 14 days ago today, with symptoms once again of a blocked bladder. As he is an outdoor cat, the symptoms are not detectable until it is almost too late, which is what happened this time. I rushed him straight to the vets and he was immediately sedated, catheterised and under critical observation as it was a near fatal situation. It took almost 10 days to clear his bladder and he went through the procedure twice as they thought the catheter wasn't working properly. Eventually his bladder cleared, only for him to be back at the vets 24 hours later as he was not able to pass urine and there was imminent danger of him blocking again. The vets strongly recommended a referral to hospital for further tests and surgery. Kato is fully insured, but the insurance limit is now reached. The good news is the hosp have found the cause of his problems through intensive scans, he has a mis-shaped bladder. I have a further estimated bill of £5000, for hosp stay and the op.
