Story
In October I’m going to cycle from Chelmsford, Essex to Liverpool to raise money for MATES (Mental health Awareness Through Educational Speaking)
MATES is a community interest group created so people can speak openly about mental health and they run regular events for the community.
Out of this group, came a football club called MATES FC, which is an amazing community football club based in Chelmsford that uses football to tackle mental health issues, such as Depression and Anxiety.
Unlike regular football teams there is no obligation to play each week and you just play when you feel strong enough to. Rather than being part of a league, all matches are friendlies.
I found out about MATES randomly through Facebook at a time when I really needed it and just getting out there playing football again and talking to people has helped me so much.
The money raised through the cycle will directly help to continue to provide this incredible service and help raise awareness so people that need it, find out about it.
If you want to find out more visit:
Now to the cycle, it’s around 400km, which may not sound much to ‘proper’ cyclists but for a complete novice like me it will be extremely tough…the 7 people that follow me on Strava will be able to vouch for that.
Thank you so much for your support!
