Story

Darius Nenius, 45, and his mother Irena were made homeless two weeks ago when his benefits were stopped and he ran out of money.

Irena, 87, suffers with disability and dementia and was forced to sleep at the side of a rat infested canal overnight with her son with nothing more than a blanket after being refused shared accommodation as it was already at capacity.

‘It is my duty to care for my mother,’ he said. ‘We just don’t know what to do now. We need help, desperately. Look at us. I can’t go to work, people just say I’m lazy. But if I leave my mum for a long time and something might happen, she doesn’t speak English. This is horrible. I cannot leave her. '

All proceeds will go towards Darius and Irena in the hope that they can find somewhere safe to live, get back on their feet, and so that care can be provided for Irena to assist Darius.
