Story

Danny Bergara holds a special place in the hearts of County fans. The "Man from Uruguay" truely put Stockport County on the footballing map, winning promotion for the first time in twenty four years and leading the team out at Wembley on four separate occasions.

More than twenty five years after Danny left County, our two supporters groups believe the time has come to honour our legendary former manager. Stockport County Supporters Co-operative and Help the Hatters would like to commission a life size bronze statue of Danny, which will take pride of place outside Edgeley Park.

We are launching a fundraising campaign to cover the cost of the statue and a plinth to ensure that Danny's legacy at our home isn't just emotional, but physical too.

A target of £50,000 has been set, so please give generously to support this very worthy project.

Many thanks to everyone who has donated to our statue appeal. Danny has been unveiled at the Hartlepool game and we've received amazing feedback from the fans. Our sculptor, Hannah Stewart has done Danny proud! We are having a final push to purchase a lighting system and a generous benefactor has offered to match every donation. For 4 days from today until and including Sunday this week our benefactor will match up to £100 of your donations each day bringing in, if successful, £800 which would take us to within £2000 of our target.

The statue will be unveiled at the Hartlepool game on Monday 8th May. Join us at 9.50am for the ceremony with Mr Cesar Rodriguez Zabala, the Uruguayan Ambassador to the UK. Many thanks to everyone who has donated and supported this project.
