Story

Richard Dunkerley was 22 years old when he was killed on board HMS Ardent during an attack by the Argentinian air force in the Falkland conflict.

On May 21st Stalham Royal British Legion organised a memorial parade and service in Stalham for Richard Dunkerley who was sadly killed 40 years ago on HMS Ardent during the Falklands conflict. This event was well supported by the Town council, local businesses, youth organisations and the community. The council allowed us to close the main street of Stalham for a parade which over 200 people attended from RNA Associations, Royal British Legion Branches, Ex-servicemen, Navy, RAF, Army and many veterans. Afterwards Stalham British his Legion organised a buffet at the Swan Inn Stalham.

After the event members of the Stalham Royal British Legion wanted to make a permanent memorial to Richard in the form of a memorial bench. We have contacted a firm in Belfast for a 6-foot stainless steel bench painted black with a red poppy for £1580.00 and require £250.00 for a hard standing. Making a total of £1830.00. Any donations will be greatly received.
