    Story

At Dads Matter (PAS cic) we are dedicated to addressing the profound challenges posed by parental alienation within the United Kingdom's family court system. Our mission is to create a positive and lasting impact on the lives of alienated parents, their children, and the family unit as a whole.

After a successful climb of Mount Snowdon, our intrepid team of walkers have decided to take on another mammoth challenge, but this time we need your help.

There are 214 Wainwright fells in the Lake District, each with varying degrees of length and difficulty. We at Dadsmatter believe we can tackle them all. IN ONE DAY!

To do this, we need your help, not only with the raising of funds but by assisting in the completion of a fell walk (or two).

If you feel you are up to the challenge, visit our website and sign up now.

What your funding will do for our members, For every ten pounds raised we can keep a child in touch with their non-resident through the medium of a shared diary.

If you would like to get involved, not just as a donor, but as a participant please visit our website and pre-register for the Impossible Dream Walk 2024

A Child Led Initiative by Dads Matter

Dads Matter is a UK-based not for profit organisation that works to support fathers and their children. We believe that all children have the right to a meaningful relationship with both of their parents, regardless of their parents’ living arrangements and as long as it is safe to do so.

One of Dads Matter’s most innovative initiatives is the Shared Diary. The Shared Diary is a physical diary that is passed back and forth between a child and their non-resident parent. The child and parent can write to each other about their lives, their hopes and dreams, and their love for each other.

The Shared Diary is a powerful tool for helping children stay connected with their non-resident parents. It allows children to share their thoughts and feelings with their parents, even when they are not able to be together in person. It also helps children to learn more about their parents’ lives and to feel loved and supported by them.

The Shared Diary is held by a trusted third party, such as a social worker, an advocate, or the child’s school. This ensures that the diary is safe and that both the child and the parent have equal access to it.

The Importance of Both Parents in a Child’s Life

Research has shown that having both parents in their lives is important for children’s well-being. Children who have a close relationship with both of their parents are more likely to do well in school, to have healthy relationships, and to be happy and successful in life.

In the UK, around 2.5 million children live with only one parent. This is often due to divorce or separation. However, even when parents are not living together, it is important for them to maintain a close relationship with their children, and for this, we need to be led by the wants, needs and dreams of the children.

The Dads Matter Shared Diary Initiative is a valuable resource for children and their non-resident parents. It helps children to stay connected with their parents and to feel loved and supported by them.

    Our Commitments:

    1. Advocacy and Awareness: We are committed to raising awareness about the damaging impact of parental alienation on families. Through education and advocacy, we seek to dispel myths, reduce stigma, and promote a more empathetic understanding of this issue.

    2. Legal Reform: Our primary goal is to catalyze positive change within the UK family court system. We work tirelessly to influence policy and legislation, advocating for legal reforms that protect the rights of alienated parents, uphold children's well-being, and prioritize healthy co-parenting relationships.

    3. Support and Empowerment: We provide a supportive community for alienated parents, offering resources, counseling, and workshops to empower them with the tools they need to navigate the challenges of parental alienation. Our aim is to restore their confidence, strengthen their relationships with their children, and help them build a brighter future.

    4. Child-centred Approach: We firmly believe that every child deserves the love and care of both parents. We advocate for child-centered decision-making within the family court system, focusing on fostering healthy parent-child relationships, regardless of the parental dynamics.

    5. Collaboration: We work collaboratively with professionals in psychology, law, social work, and other relevant fields to develop comprehensive, evidence-based solutions for addressing parental alienation. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, we seek to offer comprehensive support for families in need.

    6. Public Engagement: We engage with the public through seminars, workshops, and awareness campaigns to promote dialogue around the effects of parental alienation and the importance of a reformed family court system. We aim to build a broad consensus for change.

In addition to our core principles, we also provide training to educational settings to help them identify "actual" cases of Parental Alienation and support children through the trauma these behaviors cause.

Our primary goal is always the child's safety, and ensuring we work only with individuals deemed safe and responsible to actively support their children in a homely setting.

Working in association with TTBAD (Trying to be a Dad) and the Falsely Accused network, we reach and support hundreds of parents each month, all whilst being totally self-funding.
