Story
Help us raise urgent funds for Ukraine
As the horror of the war unfolds, artists and cultural activists in Ukraine are coming together to help those in need.
We are raising funds to support the Ukrainian collective Congress of Cultural Activists and their project space Nazar Voitovich Art Residency Space to provide emergency support and accommodation for artists and their families fleeing the war.
Members of the collective are using an artists residency space away from the conflict zone as a safe space for those escaping the cities. They have co-opted support from the local community and are providing wider online advice and help for those seeking safe passage during this ever-changing crisis.
D6 has a longstanding relationship with the Congress of Cultural Activists - an extraordinarily vibrant collective of artists, architects, filmmakers and thinkers advocating for the role of culture in Ukraine following the Maidan protests in 2013 and 2014. Over the years we have had multiple exchanges, welcoming artists and curators to the UK and visiting cultural projects across Ukraine.
All donations and anything we raise above our target will support the collective's emergency programme over the coming months.

2 years ago(2/3) Towards the end of 2022, NVAIR lost electricity, making it pretty much uninhabitable. The residents have relocated; some abroad, or back to the risks of their homes. Lucy Nychai, a founder of NVAIR, was invited to collaborate in the UK as our curator in residence. She is supporting (Re)Grounding, a project that sees two Ukrainian artists in residency at D6 this February. We’re holding an event with the artists and Lucy at the Common Room in Newcastle, 1 March at 5.30-7pm. Please save the date and look out for more information shortly.

2 years ago(1/3) Thank you for donating to our appeal to support the Nazar Voitovich Art Residency Space (NVAIR) in Ukraine in 2022. To get a sense of the difference the art shelter made to artists and families fleeing the war, we invite you to watch this video created by the residents that documents their experiences finding safety and creating a community. It captures aspects of living through the war that mainstream media somehow misses. It also shows how the support given by many has made such a difference.
