Story
The Old Coach Road is approximately 8km of unsealed unclassified county road in the parishes of St. John Castlerigg & Wythburn, Threlkeld and Matterdale. The road was used by the Romans to transport minerals from the Pennines to the west coast and was the main route from central Cumbria to the west in years to follow. Today, The Old Coach Road is enjoyed by all, with walker, cyclists, horse riders and mechanical propelled vehicle users sharing the access then rightfully to be rewarded with the views it has to offer across the valley. The Old Coach Road was significantly damaged during Storm Desmond in 2015 with the excessive rainfall leaving the road heavily scared in several places. Subsequent storms have left it even more scarred. The 'authorities' do not have the money to repair it, so Cumbria Trail Riders Fellowship would like to do that so all users can regain the use of this roadway for many years to come.

7 years agoWe've cracked it, we've hit the magic 5 figure target, £10,000!!! Well done!! The money will be put to good use giving the Old Coach Road a new lease of life repairing it to a standard which can then be relatively easily maintained from then on, allowing it to be enjoyed by all for the foreseeable future. Thank you to everybody involved from me and on behalf of the Cumbria Trail Riders Fellowship.

As a member of the TRF & Cumbria TRF, we have identified a need to repair the Old Coach Road before it gets beyond a repairable condition. I have set up this fundraising page to help us do this.
