Story
Since launching the annual Hit To Wimbledon challenge in 2021, the CTC Tennis Leaders have raised over £4,000 and they are ready to do it all again this year on Sunday 28th June!
Our team of Assistant Coaches and Tennis Leaders will once again take to the court and hit the distance from Caerphilly Tennis Club to Centre Court at Wimbledon AND BACK, totalling 260 miles, in just one day as they raise money for 2 fantastic causes:
- The CTC Leadership Project. In 5 years, our Leaders have volunteered over 4,400 hours to the Club, assisting Head Coach Jonathan Morgan in delivering weekly lessons, school holiday camps and special events. The funding raised through the previous challenges has provided existing Leaders with additional training, support and resources, whilst also helping us to recruit new Leaders earlier this year. It has also enabled us to put x10 Senior Leaders through their Level 1 Assistant course as they take the next step on their coaching journey. But it's not just on the court where this Project is having an impact - x16 Leaders have gone on to gain part-time employment in various roles/sectors, citing the skills and experiences gained through their involvement as big factors in being successful. While others have used the volunteering to complete their Welsh Baccalaureate and achieve Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
- The Leader's chosen charity for 2026 is Marie Curie, the UK's leading end of life charity. They provide free palliative and end of life care, information and support, whilst also campaigning for more people to have a better end of life, and fund palliative care research.
Again this year, we're inviting people to visit CTC during the challenge on Sunday 28th June between 10am and 2pm to show your support but also to have a go and hit a mile or two yourself! The final miles will be hit collectively by the whole team at around 3pm so come and join the celebration!
