Story
There's a vast refugee crisis in the Middle East. Millions of Iraqis and Syrians have fled to Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey, including one million children. The UN urgently needs the rest of the world to resettle the 320,000 most vulnerable Syrian refugees. So far the UK has taken just 90 - that's 30 more than Luxembourg, but 1.1 million fewer than Lebanon!
> BUTETOWN IS BUILT ON WELCOME! We are proud of our multicultural life! At one time in its history, Butetown could boast fifty different languages. WE ARE NO STRANGERS TO STRANGERS!
> TODAY, there are millions of people in the world seeking refuge from danger. WE WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE! As a community, we are working together to WELCOME, HOUSE and SUPPORT a Syrian Refugee Family. Since the outbreak of the Civil War in March 2011, an estimated 11 million Syrians have fled their homes. NOW, 13.5 million are in need of humanitarian assistance.
> HERE IN BUTETOWN, the CHURCH OF ST MARY THE VIRGIN, THE SOUTH WALES ISLAMIC CENTRE, TABERNACL CHAPEL and OTHERS are rubbing shoulders and holding hands, working with CITIZENS UK in the COMMUNITY SPONSORSHIP OF SYRIAN REFUGEES.
> BRINGING TOGETHER a lively group of people with an array of gifts and skills, we pledge to find suitable housing and provide evidence of our commitment and ability to the HOME OFFICE to be able to welcome and support a Syrian Refugee family. Oh, and we also need to raise at least £9,000!
Each of the three groups who are so far committed to the project have pledged to raise at least £2000 each. We are also working together to raise extra funds, and to encourage others to join us in this important project.
Do you want to help transform the life of a Syrian Family seeking refuge - and transform the community of which they will become a part? Any offering you can make, however small, will help us achieve our dream!
This page has been created by the Parish Church of Cardiff St Mary the Virgin - one of the three main organisations involved in the project.

Please note that all donations will be paid to the account of the Parish of Cardiff St Mary the Virgin which is audited according to Charity Regulations and the the Constituion of the Church in Wales.
