    Story

Event Start: Noon, Friday 1st November 2019

Event Finish: 24+ hours, Saturday 2nd November 2019

Venue: Wool on the Exe, 2 Okehampton Street, EX4 1DW

I am crazily going to attempt a World Record for the 'Longest Crochet Marathon' officially confirmed by Guinness World Records (26/3/19).

I will be continuously* crocheting scarves for a local homeless charity, St Petrock's , and also raising funds for Knit for Peace and Rainbow Arch of Mind (non-profit mental health organisation).

St Petrock's - We are Exeter's charity for people who are homeless or vulnerably housed. For over 20 years, we have been providing a range of support, housing and prevention services to help fill the gaps in services available to individuals in need.

Knit for Peace - We now distribute regularly to over 200 outlets, including hospitals, women’s refuges, refugee drop in centres, prisons, community groups, and hospices as well as to developing countries and refugee camps, or those living in the rubble in Syria. We send the knitting (and crochet) to where it’s needed. We also pass on donations of yarn and needles to enable people on low incomes to knit. The operation has grown organically, and we estimate we have over 22,000 knitters.

Rainbow Arch of Mind - VISION: A world where people can speak about mental health without any prejudice, embarrassment or shame. MISSION: To collate & share anonymous mental illness experiences & coping strategies for others to reference and relate to. Funds will be used to run a website to achieve this mission.

I am passionate about mental health and the benefits of craft to sufferers, including me.

*(with 5 min rest breaks per hour)

    My Story

This idea came from me realising that I will never be able to complete a running marathon in my lifetime and raise loads of money for charity, which has always been on my bucket list. Then, I thought, what am I good at? Crochet! Not sure why, but this led me to check the Guinness World Records site...

...now...I am attempting a never attempted World Record, 'Longest Crochet Marathon' !!! I need to accomplish 24+ hours of continuous* crocheting the day before my 45th birthday (of which I will likely be mostly sleeping!).

With this crazy challenge, I would like to raise as much money as I can for charities and organisations whose recipients are / could be affected by mental health issues.

I have also had it confirmed that I have Osteoarthritis in my fingers and hands, which makes this massive attempt even more of a challenge!!

Please donate an amount that you can afford to support me and these wonderful charities and organisations.

I will update you all as we get nearer to the big event!

    Thank you!

    Nat :) x
