Story

The Critical Care Unit (CCU) in Guernsey is raising money to provide additional equipment which will provide extra comfort to the critically ill patients in our care. Our patients, their families and friends are always at the forefront of our minds. We remain with our patients at all times night and day throughout what are sometimes very lengthy stays with us. We are always seeking ways that we can improve the experience and comfort of our patients during their stay in the Critical Care Unit through adding little luxuries that go beyondm the essential provision of clinical equipment.

In addition to raising money, we have decided to raise awareness of the extent of personal protective equipment (PPE) that we wear whilst caring for COVID-19 patients. We will be running 5km in PPE, (using only out-of-date stock) which includes suits, gloves, mask and visor - it gets very warm!

This fund will be used by the Critical Care tea to purchase items identified by the team which include a specialist chair that will allow the team to take long-term patients outside for some fresh air and natural light and also some specialist proning cushions which will provide extra comfort for patients.

The run will start at 10:30am on the 20th February departing from Pembroke carpark and end at North beach carpark in town.
