Crescent Kids is a registered UK charity. We are working to support families looking after children with Sickle Cell during this global pandemic.

Sickle Cell (SCD) is an inherited blood disorder that causes red blood cells to form into a crescent shape, like a sickle. These cells break apart easily, clump together, and stick to the walls of blood vessels, blocking the flow of blood, which can lead to crippling pain. This condition affects afro carribeans/Indian and peope from the meditterranean. It is vastly underfunded with limited resources and support.

These children described the pain like - feeling like a bus running over them or a chain saw cutting through bone. The pain can last for days, sometimes weeks. These children suffer on a regular basis with the most common types of relief being IV Morphine or a blood transfusion. They are some of the bravest children you will ever meet - to deal with consistent chronic pain and come back fighting, every single time.

During this Covid-19 pandemic; SCD falls under the government category of the extremely vulnerable. Children with Sickle Cell and Thalasseamia must stay shielded for at least 12 weeks. In the midst of Covid-19 we are urging all of our parents to take extra care to avoid contracting the virus - which could be life threatning for a sickle cell patient.

We want to do whatever we can to help SCD patients stay out of hospital during this time. NHS resources are stretched, spending extending periods admitted to a hospital ward isnt the best place for a children with SCD. The extremely vulnerable are requested to self isolate for 12 weeks at present.

Many of our families know the importance of a healthy diet and rely on essential vitamins and supplements to keep these young children in optimum health. During this time; there is financial uncertainty for many and lots have reported a loss of access/delays to the supply of these key vitamins.

This is why we are raising funds to provide key health packages.
