Hi, I've set this page up to try and raise enough money towards buying a helmet for my 6 month old boy Remy.
Remy has an asymmetric head shape due to a severe case of 'flat head syndrome' (plagiocephaly).
As you can see in the photos, the left side of his head and face protrude out, his ears are misaligned and what the photos don't show is the lower part of his head, behind his left ear is completely flat.
I started to notice Remys odd head shape when he was around 2 months old and raised my concerns with family and friends, nurses, doctors and pediatricians, all of which reassured me it would sort itself out by the time Remy reaches 3 months. He is now 6 months old and unfortunately there has been no improvement.
I have tried a number of things to try to help, Remy has the pillows that are designed to help with flat head syndrome, I keep repositioning him whilst he sleeps (as he prefers his flat side), and I also give him lots of tummy time.
We arranged a consultation for Remy and his twin sister Cleo with 'Technology in Motion' which is an orthotic clinic for children specialising in flat head syndrome. After scanning Remys head and taking measurements, they informed us of the severity of Remy's case as the measurement for the asymmetry on the chart only went up to 28mm but Remy's was 30mm!. luckily Cleo's is only mild so doesn't need a helmet.
The helmets work the best between the ages of 4 and 7 months when the babies heads are still soft enough to remould so we have left it a bit late. He should only have to wear the helmet for 7 months at the most. There are also follow up appointments every 2 weeks to check the progression.
The helmets cost £2000. Unfortunately I am unable to raise this kind of money in a short space of time so would be very grateful of any donations. Any amount would help massively and bring us closer to helping Remy.
