    Story

The original idea was to raise money for our local scout troop by selling little conker caterpillars. Our enthusiasm got the better of us and we embarked on setting a New Guinness World Record!! After 8 weeks of collecting, washing, drilling & threading we took our gigantic caterpillar to CONKERS Activity Centre in Swadlincote to be verified. Two local accountants counted, a professional surveyor measured and a park ranger was on hand to confirm that the entire caterpillar was made from horse chestnuts!

All our evidence was sent to Guinness World Records and they have confirmed that The Davies Family have set a new world record for the World's Longest Chain of Conkers/Horse Chestnuts, aka The World's Longest Conker Caterpillar!! The caterpillar contains 16,847 conkers and is 341.2m long!

The Record Breaking Caterpillar is currently on display at CONKERS and there are plans to make it into a permanent art installation! Consequently, we will now be making lots of new little caterpillars to sell once we can collect some more conkers in the autumn!!

If you would like to make a donation to the very worthwhile world of scouting we will reward you with a small conker caterpillar (approx. 15cm) later on in the year (November time). Meanwhile, you can see the new Guinness World Record - World's Longest Conker Caterpillar at CONKERS!

If you are not local to us or the scout troop or church, please would you be so kind as to add £3 to your donation to cover the cost of postage (UK only) and send your address in the "Contact the Davies Family" section.

Many thanks, Richard, Liz, Edward & James
