Story

The Companions of the Order of Malta are establishing a maternity theatre in Tangulbei in an attempt to reduce the high number of postnatal deaths which are affecting the region.

We have already raised enough money to build a brand-new maternity theatre in Tangulbei, Baringo County, Kenya – a much-needed facility in a large rural and nomadic community- which will be run by the Holy Ghost Fathers from Ireland. The theatre is built alongside the already successful maternity hospital for Kenyan mothers and its construction aims to reduce the number of postnatal deaths of babies and/or mothers.

The Companions of the Order of Malta are now looking to equip and furnish the surgery to make it fit for purpose. In order to do this, we are asking everybody to make a donation, however big or small, to go towards raising the £30,000 needed to complete this project.

Unlike other charitable organisations, with the Companions of the Order of Malta 100% of your donation goes towards its intended purpose. There are no administration fees, no salaries, and no expensive staff benefits, since they are all volunteers.

WHO ARE THE ORDER OF MALTA?

The Sovereign Order of Malta is one of the oldest institutions of Western and Christian civilisation. It is a lay religious order of the Catholic Church that has been helping those in need since 1113, making it the oldest humanitarian organisation in the world. Their motto is to care for the sick or the poor, no matter what nationality, faith or gender; if you are sick or poor the Order is duty bound to help.

Today, the Order of Malta is active in 120 countries, caring for people in need through its medical, social and humanitarian works. Day-to-day, its broad spectrum of social projects provides constant support for forgotten and excluded members of society.

The Order is especially involved in helping people living in the midst of armed conflicts and natural disasters by providing medical assistance, caring for refugees, and distributing medicines and basic equipment for survival.
