Story

Update 3/4/20 - Due to an overwhelming response (thank you so much to all who have donated so far), our target to raise funds to make 1500 visors has been exceeded. Further funding will allow more visors to be made and could also pay for more equipment to produce a higher volume. This is, however, dependent on material availability. Any additional equipment purchased with your support will be donated to a local non-fee paying school after the pandemic. If we are unable to purchase additional equipment or materials due to logistical challenges, remaining funding will be donated to Masks For Heroes.

The NHS are in desperate need for visors to protect frontline staff from contracting Covid-19. The masks are used over normal face masks to further protect the user from the virus. I plan to use the laser cutter in the Leonardo Centre at Uppingham School (where I am Head of the Design and Technology Department) to create as many masks as possible. Initially the masks will be supplied to North West Anglia Trust as well as GPs and nursing homes in and around Rutland and Lincolnshire. The masks are made from polypropylene and PVC. Estimated costs are 30 pence per visor; a £5 donation will pay for 17 visors. My target is to make 1500 visors and the money donated will pay for the materials to make these. More funding will not only allow more visors to be made but also could pay for more equipment to produce a higher volume.

Your help to make this vital piece of equipment at such a crucial time would be very much appreciated.
