Story
Following on from charitable work that our midwives have provided in Africa, and in line with our Principals ongoing support of healthcare initiatives that help mothers, babies and midwives, we are aiming to supply 1,000 birth kits to front line midwives in Africa.
Infections at birth affect more than 6 million women annually. Even worse, poor hygiene and sanitation during birth is directly linked to the preventable deaths of more than 1 million women and newborns each year.
We’re raising money in two ways, in order to achieve the pledge target of £5,000 to pay for 1,000 birth kits. Firstly by your generous sponsorship and donations, and secondly Private Midwives will be contributing by paying for the cost of one of these birth kits for every birth package of care booked during the rest of 2017.

We are working in conjunction with Zubaida Bai is the co-founder of Ayzh and the creator of the Clean Birth Kit in a Purse. The organization provides women’s health resources to underserved women globally.
The kit comes packaged in a biodegradable jute bag that mothers reuse as a purse. For some mothers, it is the first purse they have ever owned, which remain a symbol of dignity and cleanliness in her home for years to come.
The kit contains simple tools recommended by the World Health Organization to provide sanitation and sterility at the time of childbirth, which not only saves the lives of mother and baby, but also helps ensure a healthy and happy start to life.
Kit contents include:
-Sterile pads
-Cord Clamp
-Under pad
-Baby Blanket
-Gloves
-Soap
-Surgical Blade
-Sanitary Pads
-Baby Wiping Cloth
-1 Jute Pouch
