Message from Ethea - Creative Director and Writer of Chrysalis

"I grew up in a world of musicals which never truly reflected my experiences, and so I started writing music with the dream to one day write a musical which reflected my own relationship with love. I am so proud to present 'Chrysalis', a show born through a passion to open the eyes of society to the depth, love, pain, and complexity of queer people. ‘To be loved’ is a desire all share, but ‘to be loved iridescently’ is a deeper desire, one intrinsic to the queer community. The music, characters, and stories represent a deep passion for being yourself and loving love. When I sat at the piano to write the songs for Chrysalis, the laughs, cries, and stories of my friends, my family, and myself were coursing through my veins; there was a beautiful synergy of pain and beauty working together to create music which represents the authentic experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals. As my wise idol once wrote: “Passed down like folk songs, our love lasts so long” - our love deserves to be loved out loud, and as Jacqueline and I put pen to paper, we are passing down a work of dramatically poetic love which we hope lasts so long."
