Story

On Sunday 10th April, as part of the BM Ride, Chris Jepson & Rory Finn will cycle 50km on the very rarely closed roads of Brighton & Hove ahead of the Brighton Marathon.

They are fundraising for Trans Can Sport, a not-for-profit Brighton & Hove project dedicated to transforming the wellbeing of trans people through physical activity.

Trans people want to engage in activities, both sporting and social, like everyone else, and Trans Can Sport was formed to provide a safe space to allow these things to happen in a supportive, friendly and non-competitive environment.

Chris is an award-winning portrait and documentary photographer, while Rory is a health worker for the Terrence Higgins Trust. We are both passionate about diversity and inclusion and support the work of Trans Can Sport who want to resolve and avoid some of the barriers that stop trans people accessing sport.

Trans Can Sport create a safe space for trans people to use freely, and provide a supportive environment that allows people to connect with their bodies in a positive way.

The mental health benefits of sport and exercise for everyone are well known, and in the words of one of their participants:

I no longer feel alone and don't have to worry about being self-conscious in front of people who don't understand why I might look different. I'm looking forward to taking part in as many of the future activities as I can.
