Story
I am fundraising to help my friends, Chris, Sue and Jamie North. Chris and Jamie were on a holiday in Sweden when they came off their motorbike. Jamie broke his leg, but Chris was severely injured and broke his neck, various ribs and injured his spine.
Chris had an operation on his neck in Sweden and has no feeling from his waist down. He also has no movement in his right arm, limited movement in his left arm and can't use any of his fingers.
There was a complication trying to get him transported from the hospital in Sweden to Addenbrooke's in the UK as the insurance company did not want to pay for it. Sue has had to rely on a friend and family to pay the £14,000 needed to get him back in the UK. On top of that her friend also paid for them getting to Sweden, accomodation for a few days and for them to take Jamie back to the UK as well.
The outlook for Chris is also uncertain and currently he is expected to be transferred to the Spinal Injury unit of the Stoke Mandeville hospital in the near future for further treatment. This will mean that Sue and Jamie will incur even more expenses each time they want to visit him.

4 years agoThis fundraising page will close for donations on Monday 31 August. A big thank you on behalf of Chris, Sue and Jamie for all your support and kind donations. More than a year after his accident Chris is still not home. He is currently in The Marbrook Centre in St. Neots. Their house is being modified to enable wheelchair access and hopefully Chris will be able to come home (with full-time care at home) in the not too distant future. The house will then need further changes to give Chris his own downstairs bedroom and wet room.

5 years agoUpdate about Chris. He is currently still in the Stoke Mandeville hospital and recently he tested positive for Covid-19. After initially only having mild symptoms, Chris developed breathing problems and after his hart rate dropped he was admitted to the ICU for a few days. He is currently back on a ward (separate room), but has pneumonia as well, still needs oxygen mask, has improved, but doctor said he is not out of the woods yet and has a long way to go.Let's all keep our fingers crossed that he will pull through this horrible period.
