Story

BARNEY’S GOING FOR GOLD IN THE YEAR OF THE OLYMPICS – ATTEMPTING TO WALK 50mtrs UNAIDED, 3x IN A WEEK -- TO FUND A BRAND NEW POWERCHAIR FOR HIS AND THE CLUB’S USE!!!

TARGET £6,500!!

Barney is a fulltime wheelchair user with fine and gross motor challenges and presents with low muscle tone and hypermobility – especially in his lower body. He is making good progress with his steps and can now make transfers with minimal support, regularly goes on the treadmill in the gym and also uses his walker in the park to help improve his strength and mobility.

Over the last year he has become very keen on following football both as a spectator but importantly as a player with Farnham Powerchair Football Club. He trains weekly and they play regular matches however to date they have only one match due to being a new club but also due to having older second hand chairs. To become more competitive in the league they need modern and faster Powerchairs with better manoeuvrability and greater acceleration.

Barney wants to improve his walking and raise money for his own Bullet Powerchair. He always loves a challenge and following his recent successful Footsteps session he has set himself a NEW CHALLENGE to WALK UNAIDED 50 METRES 3X IN ONE WEEK!!!

It’s a MASSIVE goal for him, but achievable with the right focus and training. All his hard work over the last couple of years have steadily improved his overall leg strength and stamina, and he now needs to focus on his balance, core strength and technique.

He has set up a new Instagram account – “Barney Steps Up” so everyone can follow his exercise programme and progress. PLEASE FOLLOW Barney_Steps_up

We really appreciate your support and any donations would be most welcome. Barney is keen to have a new chair ready for the next season 2024/25.

Thanks for your support! Sports for all! Come on Farnham Flames!

Go Barney!!!

Further Information:

Farnham Powerchair Football Club

The club was founded in 2022 by a group of parents and volunteers. Since that time with the support of family and friends and some small grants we have found a venue, acquired second-hand chairs and built a storage facility.

With the kind and generous donations from family, friends and followers we raised monies last year helping us buy our own team kit, cover regular training costs as well as van hire and fuel to get our equipment to and from our matches. We have joined the South East League and have played many competitive matches against other regional teams. We were the proud winners of the South East League Fair Play award.
