I've raised £2500 to Say NO to Chickerell and Tatton BESS, proposed Chickerell Solar Farm and Battery Energy Storage System - BESS

The 75 ACRE Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) site (that’s the same as about 40 full size football pitches!!) between Coldharbour and the substation by Weymouth Football Club will consist of 600 HUGE SHIPPING CONTAINERS housing several million Lithium-Ion battery cells. These batteries are at risk of fire and explosion, creating highly flammable and dangerous toxic gases which, when mixed with water forms hydrofluoric acid – one of the most corrosive substances known. As well as this 2 smaller BESS are proposed at Tatton and Coldharbour
In 2021 a fire on a 4-CONTAINER site in Liverpool took the fire brigade eleven hours to control and in California, a 3km exclusion zone was set up following a BESS fire, which caused life changing injuries to several firefighters.
Remember the lockdowns we endured during Covid, then add in having to keep all windows and doors closed and pets and children inside until the fire is under control and the toxic gases are gone.
A BESS failure database lists 50 incidents worldwide since 2018.
ONE FIRE WILL BE ONE TOO MANY. IT IS IRRESPONSIBLE & UNECESSARY TO SITE SUCH A DANGER CLOSE TO THE HOMES OF MORE THAN 53,000 PEOPLE.
We will use money raised to pay for printing of flyers & banners, holding public meetings and paying for any specialist advice or support to help ensure that this proposal is not granted planning permission by Dorset Council.
