Story
Earlier in March this year, two friends and myself organized a skateboard competition in Busua, Ghana. We went out there, built the ramp with a local carpenter, got it painted with the kids, paid for skateboarders from Accra to come to Busua to participate and helped out in the local schools. Regardless of many hiccups we managed to pull off an incredible event with a great turn out.
In August we are putting on another Skateboard competition on a bigger scale. We will be out there for 3 weeks organizing the event and working closely with the local kids.
The competition will be held during a street art festival, with the ramps and other obstacles being built by local carpenters and painted by local artists.
Our plan for the kids is to bring them from their village were we held the last competition to the street art festival in Accra to compete, providing them with travel, food and accommodation. We also want to try to take them on day trips to see more of their country.
We will be taking more skateboards, sneakers and other supplies that aren't that easily accessible out there for the kids.
We started this project as we believe sports and art give kids and young adults a positive outlook on life and give them something to grasp.
We can see the massive impact we made on the kids by how dedicated they are in learning new tricks, teaching each other, working together and having fun. We also involve them in the organisational parts so they can learn practical skills for the future.
We are funding everything by ourselves and would be extremely grateful for any support.
