Iʼm raising £1,000 to support Foxhound Welfare #huntingforhappyhomes. Ceri is running the length of Wales in the epic Dragon's Back Race in September 2024

Don't have time to donate right now?

Story

I first met the Foxhounds at Canicross races. Great runners, but do they make great pets? With first Llew (half Foxhound) and now Alice joining our household, I can safely say they are lovely dogs: affectionate and good with other animals. They love long walks and runs, but chill happily at home as well. They do have a naughty side: we now have a lock on the bin and have learnt not to leave tins in the sink...

On the running side, I run canicross with the dogs, but two years ago decided to up my dogless running and entered some ultra races. Having got the bug, this year I'm going for the big one, the Dragon's Back Race. This epic adventure spans the length of Wales: six days, 380km with 16,400m of ascent, considered one of the hardest mountain races in the world!

Foxhound Welfare relies on donations to care for the many hounds in their care and help them find loving families. Ideally adopt one, but if you don't have a hound shaped space in your life, why not sponsor me instead?

So after an incredible week, I can only say thank you all for your support. The first three days though the mountains of Eryri were my home turf and I was running strong, up in the top women's times. Sadly day 4 I starting with some leg pain, that by day 5 meant I could not run the downhill sections at all. Despite the best I could do, on day 6 I had to drop out. 330km run, 50km to go to Cardiff, but I was down to a very slow shuffle and could not keep going. An incredible experience nevertheless.
