Over 1.5k raised now! Thank you for the kind support. Time is now running out for securing the set, And we want to keep fundraising! We also however want to assure people we are finalising backup plans in case we cannot save 624, and any money raised will still be put to good use.

Hello and welcome to the Clacton Express Preservation Group (CEPG), a newly formed organisation with a clear goal, To Purchase, Restore and eventually run BR AM9 (BR Class 309) “Clacton Express” First Gen 3-Car EMU. The unit in question is currently up for sale and is at risk, So with your help we can save it for future generations. We are looking at saving unit 309 624, Currently sitting as 960 102 (From its Railtrack days). We have a several phase plan to ensure the successful acquisition and restoration of this unit.


The 1st phase is this initial fundraising, purchase and moving the set. The final asking price has now been Finalised. We cannot disclose this now, but if we can raise £5k in donations, We can match this with a grant to cover the costs of purchase.

We then have a place the set can reside, with a backup plan if the first falls through. As mentioned above, we also have backups if we cannot reach the final asking price, with details on these being confirmed as soon as we are allowed to do so. No money raised here will ever go to waste!
