Story
My name is Celia I adore dogs and have two of my own. I trained as a dog groomer, (whilst holding down a full time job) and now I’m a qualified dog groomer and run my own business.
Oscar is a rescue dog and like many of us, his owner is struggling to keep up with rising costs of food and energy. And this includes the struggles to provide for our loyal pets. Oscar had been through some tough times and it’s taken some time for him to become affectionate and feel loved again.
His loving owner is a pensioner and has a variety of health issues herself, which means she can't take Oscar out much. Oscar also requires regular grooms and suffers from a dry skin condition that gets worse without grooms. He recently had an ulcer on his eye and had to have one of his eyes removed. This was a costly operation for his owner but there is nothing she would not do for Oscar as she is his biggest fan and her best companion.
His owner cannot afford dog walkers or dog groomers but she will do anything to keep Oscar - his home is with her. Fortunately as a dog groomer I have been able to give Oscar free grooms and walks myself but can’t always afford to give up paid work.
I have come across many other cases like this and know there are hundreds of dogs across Liverpool whose owners due to the cost of living crises are struggling to keep up with their pets welfare. But the thought of giving them up is also devastating. Often for many people, it is their only companion. I spoke with many Animal Rescue centers who told me that a lot of owners, who come to them, really don’t want to give up their beloved pet but they can no longer keep up with the expense.
Grooming is an essential part of a dog’s wellbeing and failure to groom pets regularly can have serious health consequences. cysts, itchy and sore skin conditions, even ear infections—all of which can hide under fur. Overgrown nails cause extreme foot pain and in severe cases bleeding of the foot pads. Matted hair can progress quickly from causing mild skin irritation to infecting wounds. Fleas and ticks can live invisibly in a hair mat, and mats around the hind end can cause an accumulation of faeces and sores. Severe hair mats can grow so tightly that they can restrict or cut off blood circulation.
Can you donate for Oscar and many other dogs just like him to get a free grooms/walks
This is Lola my 13 year old dog who loves a long cycle trip. We will be taking part in the Liverpool to Chester bike ride on July 2nd to raise awareness of the impact the cost of living is having on dog owners. and the need for elderly or sick dog owners to have assistance to maintain the welfare and health of their dogs.
If you can donate as little or as much as you can and we will ensure dogs like Oscar and many more dogs, receive the groom/walk they deserve, taking away the financial stress from their beloved owners.
Please support Pawfect Paws Dog grooming campaign and together we can provide for the less fortunate dogs in the Liverpool area.

1 year agoHi all, just a small update, I've been so busy with my fantastic regular customers and their amazing dogs. However, over the next few weeks I will be going ahead with more of my dogs on the list for free groom/walks these include a young girl who has gone into rehab and although she has some help in minding her dog they are unable to provide regular walks, we have several matted dogs in homeless centres and several dogs with sick and elderly dog owners. Hope to keep you updated with pictures soon. Thanks for your support

1 year agoLast week we had Oscar back in for his groom and walk paid for by your donations. We had a small rescue dog in that needed a good groom before he could be adopted as the owners are no longer fit to take care of him . This week we will be visiting supported accommodation where some of the residents have dogs that urgently need to be groomed. Can't wait to share that with you soon.

2 years ago16 month old sweet Teddy had to have a shave off today. His lovely owner has had a crisis happening and Teddy has been right by her side. She's been unable to afford to get him groomed for sometime and therefore his coat had become matte. Your donations helped Teddy get a much needed groom yesterday. Thank you so much :
