Story

Caversham Primary School

A good education is something that many of us have come to take for granted in this country, and I’m sure nearly all of us have particularly fond memories of our carefree primary school days.

Now a parent myself, I am extremely grateful that my own children have in turn enjoyed their time at primary school, with Josh loving every day in year 5, and Ellie now in year 7 at secondary school.

Caversham Primary School has been the making of both my children, offering them so many opportunities and experiences, as well as allowing them plenty of time to play. They have both become happy, well rounded people with lots of interests, friends, and a good start in education too.

Cutbacks are making it extremely difficult for schools to keep providing such a unique and special service, and Caversham Primary is no different. Choices have to be made, and inevitably it is the children who will be the ultimate losers. I know that Mrs Perry and all the staff are doing all they possibly can to prevent this from happening, and for this we are all incredibly grateful. But they do need some help.

Bear with me, I’m getting to the point now.

This May, I will be cycling from John O’Groats to Lands End to raise money for Caversham Primary School, and I’m rather hoping that lots of you will want to sponsor me.

Don’t worry, I’m not asking for a lot, just 1p a mile. The journey is approximately 984 miles, so I’ll let you do the maths (answer at the end). I won’t be doing this as part of an organised group, just with a friend, carrying everything we need for the trip on the bikes.

The route will take us through Scotland, a little bit of Wales and England of course. Everyday I’ll be posting on Instagram, so you will all be able to see exactly where I am, and how I’m getting on. I’ll try my best to put plenty photos on it, as we are going to try and take in some of the local landmarks along the way.

I’d like to say that I have been training hard for this, but day to day life with Els and Josh has been way too busy for that.

I set off on the first leg of the journey on the 14th of May, so keep an eye out for my progress. Even if you don’t want to sponsor me by the mile, perhaps you could give money for every puncture instead, anything at all would be great.

984 miles at 1p per mile = £9.84 (you can make it a tenner if you want)

My journey can be followed on Instagram, just look for robsjogle (JOGLE - John O'Groats to Lands End).
