I'm raising £2,500 for a volunteering project

In February 2025 I’ll be heading to the Brazilian Amazon, after hosting Amazonian communities in the Isle of Skye on three occasions since 2021, contributing to the project's community engagement activities in Skye and Glasgow. I contributed to the historical and contemporary discussions on land and resources that inform this project. As a result, I am one of only twelve delegates, invited by the Munduruku Indigenous Women’s Association of the Brazilian Amazon.

This voluntary trip is partially funded to attend a remarkable Brazilian Amazon community forum, accompanied by two field trips to communities affected by loss of territory and conflict. The activities take place between 16 and 26 of February 2025, with additional days of travel either side of that.

I have been invited to present on experiences in Skye and broader societal challenges of the Highlands, to engage in facilitated workshops regarding sustainable strategies that have social and environmental commitments, and to continue networks of mutual support beyond these activities.

Travel to the Amazon, and boat travel within the region is very expensive. We are endeavouring to make a significant contribution to assist travel for people from this part of the world, but we are also balancing this with the need to help resource the activities in the Amazon, to avoid burden on communities with scant resources.

I’ve applied to several organisations and local trusts but not been successful. Its hard for everyone right now so any donations would be amazing.
