Story
As we step into our new school term the Sixth Form Social Justice team is excited to kick off the year with our annual "Sleep Out" event! We're reaching out to our amazing school community to join hands with us in support of a noble cause.
Our Sleep Out is planned for September , weather permitting.
We've launched a "Just Giving" page, and we're calling on all of you to stand with us. Our volunteers are going to spend one night under the open sky, sleeping out to raise funds for two very worthy causes - 75% of all funds raised will go to Compassion Belfast, and 25% of funds raised will go back into supporting Sixth Form Enrichment projects at St Colman's, including projects such as this which develop social justice awareness and skills in our Sixth Form students. Last year we were able to donate to the local food bank & nursing homes in Ballynahinch.
Compassion Belfast is an organisation dedicated to making a difference in the lives of those experiencing homelessness. Among their many services, we are particularly drawn to their Compassion Walks. During these outreach programs, they provide essential items to rough sleepers and the homeless community, including toiletries, gloves, hats, dry sleeping bags, and more. Each pack they distribute costs around £15, and this is where your donation comes into play.
Sleeping out might be a daily reality for some people, often through circumstances beyond their control. Our Sleep Out event is an opportunity to educate our young people about the challenges faced by the homeless. This firsthand experience will give our young participants a glimpse into what it's like to spend a night in the cold without a bed or a roof over their heads.
We're requesting your support in two important ways:
1. Please share our "Just Giving" page with your family and friends.
2. Consider contributing financially to our page. Even a small donation can make a significant difference.
Let's come together as a community to make a positive impact and support those in need. Every donation counts, and your generosity can help provide essential items to those who need them most.
Thank you in advance for your support, and stay tuned for more updates about our Sleep Out event. Together, we can make a difference!

3 days agoOur incredible Social Justice Team of 9 students have completed their sleep-out, and we couldn't be more proud of them! Despite the cold (though thankfully dry!) conditions, the team persevered, showing tremendous spirit and resilience throughout the night. It was a humbling experience for all, giving them a small insight into the hardships faced by those who sleep rough every day. We’re so proud of the way they've represented their school, families, and community. Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far.

Here’s a snapshot of our determined students taking part in this powerful event to raise awareness and support for those experiencing homelessness. Our Sleep Out isn’t just a challenge – it’s a meaningful way for our students to connect with the realities faced by many in our community. They’re learning what it’s like to spend a night without the comforts of home.

What is crowdfunding?
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
