Story

Hello! We are three geography students at Newcastle University running 5km a day until Christmas (25th of October to the 25th of December.) We are aiming to raise money and lots of awareness for the Newcastle West End Foodbank; and as it is a Food Bank... we will be running dressed as carrots!! We also plan to volunteer at the Foodbank who provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty in the west end of Newcastle, which is one of the most economically and socially deprived areas in the North East. Having loved living in Newcastle for 3 years, and having been made so welcome by this wonderful city, we want to give back to parts of the community who need help.

Foodbanks rely on the support of local communities to help prevent hunger. The West End Foodbank not only provides food for those in need, but also gives support through employment and social integration within the local community. During the coronavirus pandemic, as unemployment rises the demand for food parcels soared by 150% in April alone, therefore every penny will make a huge difference.

Any donations would be hugely appreciated.
