Story

We are Care Venezuela, a UK charity formed by a group of Venezuelan volunteers in Manchester, who have been fundraising for Venezuela since 2017 through a number of different channels. Our mission is to send donations and help the most vulnerable communities.

Venezuela, a resource-rich country is now in a state of disarray due to devastating economic policies that have taken the country to a full collapse of unprecedented dimensions. This has never happened before in the history of the western hemisphere, with millions unable to access basic healthcare and adequate nutrition. There is Limited access to safe water in homes and poor heath care management has contributed to the spread of Covid-19.

More than 5 million people, almost 20% of the population, have been forced out of the country in order to meet their basic needs: food, medicine, and medical supplies.

GDP has become the lowest in the Americas continent, while inflation is expected to end this year in 4+ figures for the fifth consecutive year. The minimum wage is less than US$4/month. The poorest, and amongst them the children are the ones who suffer the most dreadful consequences.

The shortage of food is leading people of all ages to die of hunger every day, especially the youngest and most helpless members of the population. One out of three Venezuelans need urgent food supply. 75% of households do not have access to food and the nutritional consequences have been devastating. The 2020 National Survey of Life Conditions reported 8% of children under five are malnourished and 30% chronically malnourished, or stunted in growth.

Likewise, the shortage of medicines and medical supplies of all kinds which extends to 88% of all public health hospitals and pharmacies is causing people to die of simple flu or even worse, as a consequence of long-eradicated diseases like tuberculosis, diphtheria, malaria, and others. Some of the facts in this matter:

• 3.000 people died between 2017 & 2018 because they did not receive dialysis.

• By 2018, Venezuela had 9.362 cases of diphtheria and measles resulting in 230 deaths.

• Over 400k cases of malaria in 2017.

• 140k cancer patients and over 300k people with heart disease are at risk if they don't receive medication.

• 300k people with chronic diseases such as Parkinson & Haemophilia have not been treated since 2016.

• Over 79k people with HIV have stopped receiving treatment since 2017 and 5.000 have lost their lives.

We have organised a JustGiving account to help raise as much money as possible for the purchase of medicines and basic goods for all those in need in Venezuela. Your contribution and support not only helps the cry of a child in despair, but rest assured that it has the appreciation of an entire nation.

Many thanks for your support
