I am a North Staffs based entertainer who's planning to take on a six week, 512 mile, walking challenge to support a locally based charity that delivers specialist care to people affected by dementia.

The Camino del Santiago Norte is the challenge that I'm setting myself, in memory of my mum Marjorie Baines who lived with vascular dementia and Alzheimers.

The Camino de Santiago is known in English as the Way of Saint James among other names. It’s a network of pilgrims' ways or pilgrimages leading to the shrine of the apostle Saint James the Great in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in North Western Spain, where tradition has it that the remains of the saint are buried. Many follow its routes as a form of spiritual path or retreat for their spiritual growth.

I’ve spent the last five years helping my dad look after my much loved mum Marjorie. We had so much help and support over that time and I would love the opportunity to give back by raising money to help other people who are living with dementia to live well with it.

I’ve seen the support and care that Approach gives to local families and it’s nothing short of amazing, I think helping them carry on doing this work will be the most incredible privilege.

The walk that I will be attempting is a huge challenge, especially for someone like myself in my early 60’s. That said I am an outdoors person and love walking and to complete the Camino Del Santiago Norte should be an amazing spiritual experience.”

I will be arranging a series of shows involving myself and friends to help raise funds that will help cover the costs to do the walk, the initial target is £1535 for the essentials which will cover flights, travel, accommodation and food, anything raised over this will be donated to Approach.
