As a group of 16 ex rugby players we have decided to stop talking about raising money and actually get on our push bikes to raise some. We are going to ride approx. 176 miles from the west coast of the country to the east coast country.
The money that we raise will be used to provide a defibrillator for both Acklam Park and Tollesby road which are facilities used by all ages of rugby players as well as cricketers.
We feel that as a sporting facility it is very important to invest in a defibrillator as we know by current media that heart conditions are affecting people of all ages and people who are fit and active. We have ourselves had two players who have both got heart conditions one of which is 11 years old and one who is In his 30s and is actually taking part in the ride to raise money and awareness.
Having a machine like this in the club could be the difference of saving someone's life and making the early intervention before medical help can arrive.
With money that is raised over and above what we need we are going to donate it to ocumel uk which is a charity set up to help and support people with eye cancer. Again this is a charity close to our hearts with two of our riders been related to a lady who has been affected by this awful disease with ocumel uk supporting them throughout.
