Iʼve raised £12,734 to the Buwanga Way to Health Foundation - a health promotion organisation in Eastern Uganda.

Funded on Monday, 25th September 2023

    Story

The Buwanga Way to Health Foundation is a health promotion charity in Uganda, which is preparing to build a not-for-profit hospital to meet the many medical needs of communities in Manafwa district, Eastern Uganda.

This appeal will fund the construction of a mill to produce fortified flour to help alleviate malnutrition among children, pregnant mothers, immunosuppressed patients like those of HIV, sick-cell disease, and many others.

Because of its size, the mill will need to be housed in its own separate building, which is under construction.

Buwanga is already carrying out health education sessions in villages, schools, churches and local radio stations. It has provided screening programs for common potentially life-threatening diseases including hypertension and diabetes and provided eye screening.

In February 2023, Buwanga distributed 1,500 mosquito nets, to prevent malaria.

In September 2022, Buwanga organised a free medical camp providing healthcare for a day to 2,500 patients who would otherwise have found accessing healthcare difficult or impossible.

In August 2022, the organisation distributed food to communities impacted by recent flooding that destroyed crops and swept away livestock. It planted trees that will provide nutritious food and withstand floods.

The organisation's founder Wefwafwa Andrew appeared on Ugandan national television in June 2022, where he described his community based approach to preventative medicine.

I have been passionate about this cause since 2021, having learned about Wefwafwa's work on Dr. John Campbell's YouTube channel. I will donate all funds raised here directly to the Buwanga Way to Health Foundation to support the construction of the mill.

Alternative ways to donate are here and here.

The mill is partly operational, with one machine out of three running. The local community is very thankful to be able to bring cereals to the new facility and make flour. We still need your help to plaster and complete the building, finish the electrical work and bring the remaining two machines into operation.

On behalf of our wonderful online community, I had the honour and privilege of launching the mill with Buwanga's founder Wefwafwa Andrew. We're nearly there! Next, your continuing support will enable his team to plaster and complete the building, pay the electricity connection bill and finish this remarkable project.

I travelled to Uganda and visited the Buwanga Way to Health Foundation's community facilities. Having seen the milling house for myself, I'm very impressed with how far the project has come.
