    Story

Burnham Wharf Heritage Community Interest Company have been established with the sole purpose of returning Burnhams boatbuilding heritage back from its current parlous state. At the western end of the Crouch river frontage is the yards of Kings Boat Yard, Tucker Browns, and the engineering company of Crouch Engineering have completely disappeared from the water front but the wharves and jetties of these companies have remained but have been slowly deteriorating over the thirty years since the estate of Kings Wharf development replaced these businesses .

Burnham Wharf Heritage plans to restore these wharves and jetties as a key reminder of the huge part these traditional yards played in the history of Burnham, the contribution to the town’s income and employment, and the important contribution all these companies, and others, played in two world wars .

Burnham Wharf Heritage is working with the museum (that is established in the old rigging and spar shop of Tucker-Browns) to restore the staging outside the museum that was a working jetty and platform to Tucker-Browns . This staging will record the history of Tucker-Brown and will support the educational program that the museum engages in with the local schools .

Moving West from the now museum (ex Tucker-Brown) is Burnham Sailing Club . This club played a large part on the river as the Wednesday evening racing was first established for the owners, managers and employed of the boat yard, the shipwrights and apprentices. The club also has a very dilapidated jetty in desperate need of restoration .

Burnham Wharf Heritage has a small team of volunteers drawn from key members of the town, with local knowledge and material skills to support all projects
