Story

Our first fundraising event‼️

For our first fundraising event as Megan’s Rose Of Hope, we are planning a bungee jump at 160ft🤩 off Whitby's Larpool Viaduct on Sunday 3rd April 2022. This event is part of Megan’s 21st birthday fundraising activity and will help us establish as a charity. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Who are we?

Megan’s Rose of Hope is a (soon to be) registered charity, created by Family and close friends in memory of Megan Kelly after her passing on 9 December 2021 following an 18-month battle with Ewing Sarcoma cancer.

Our mission is to provide information, guidance, research and fundraising to young people and their parents/carers who have received a cancer diagnosis between the ages of 11 – 25.

What do we hope to achieve?

We raise awareness of young person’s cancer and the impact on families

…to reach young people diagnosed with cancer and their families providing information, support and guidance to increase understanding.

We raise funds to support young people living with cancer, and their families

… to enable us to provide the information, support and networking opportunities that make a real difference to peoples’ lives at an extremely difficult time

We encourage families to network and support each other

… by providing communications channels and contact points to encourage sharing of information and support both during treatment and in the event of a terminal diagnosis or passing

We empower young people during their treatment

… by providing timely, supportive and relevant information and research tools to young people with a cancer diagnosis, and will extend this offering to their parents, loved ones and carers

Megan’s Story:

Megan’s story is at the heart of everything we do, we are honoured to be carrying out her wishes in her memory. This is Megan’s story; she wrote this herself after finding out that her cancer had returning and was unfortunately now terminal.

As this charity was Megan’s dream to create, who better to share their story.

"As everyone knows around 5 months ago I got the amazing news of getting the all clear! And honestly, I was absolutely buzzing and so grateful to get that second chance at life! Unfortunately, on 21st October I found out I have relapsed as they have found two new tumour's making it terminal cancer and because of a late relapse they don't believe I have long left here which is the most heart-breaking news for myself, my family and my friends. I am writing this to make people realise how anything can happen tomorrow and your life isn't promised. Please never go to sleep in a mood with someone and do absolutely WHATEVER makes you happy because life is short. As a 19 year old lass I shouldn't have to be able to plan my own funeral or not be able to get married and much, much more what you think you will do in life!

I'm SO grateful to spend my last memories with the most amazing people in my life and they have been the most supportive and caring people that have never left myside and I know they will stay with me till the very end. Please do what you want in life that will make you happy and don't take any bullsh*t from people that put you down for doing so! All the love in the world to the people who are by my side right now!"

Finally, a MASSIVE thank you from all the Trustees at Megan’s Rose of Hope!
