Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page in memory of our beloved and much missed husband and Dad, Bryan Galloway.
A Chemical Engineering Graduate (Bsc) who worked as a Sterile Department Manager at Sterling Winthrops, latterly Sanofi in Fawdon, Newcastle upon Tyne, Bryan was revered by many who worked for him as "... the best boss ever!".
However, away for work along with Football, one of Bryan's great passions was Ornithology, and he became hugely influential in the early part of numerous lives. Many of whom, with Bryans encouragement developed a greater passion, interest and understanding of the natural world. Several went on to successful careers in conservation or dedicate their time too volunteering with wildlife and birds in particular. Many others were inspired by Bryan's knowledge and enthusiasm to simply pick up a pair of binoculars and ultimately followed Bryan on numerous trips, both local and abroad, attended classes or lectures.
Bryan was a founder member of Northumbria Ringing Group who celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2014, and on news of his shock passing has been described by the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) as "...a ringing legend, who made a huge contribution to the BTO..." having held an A-permit for over 60 years!
A highly regarded Consultant Ornithologist conducting breeding and winter bird surveys and working as an advisor for the likes of The Ministry of Defence, Forestry England and Northumberland Wildlife Trust.
Widely recognised as immensely knowledgeable and highly influential in inspiring many on their birding journeys, particularly in the format years, and referred to by several as "a legend of the Northumbrian bird scene". Bryan's favourite species to study was the Merlin but had a particular passion for, and knowledge of, birds of prey in general. Although he humbly considered himself merely an enthusiastic amateur, Bryan has been recognised by other influential raptor field workers as having "...played huge part in many of our lives as we developed as raptor workers".
Among Bryan's favourite places were the Northumberland uplands, particularly the internationally significant heather moors as well as the county's beautiful coastline. Monfragüe National Park in Extremadura, the Pyrenees and Andalusia in Spain were favourite destinations for birding trips and numerous happy family holidays. Bryan also loved the many family New Year get togethers mainly on the Northumberland Coast, the Lake District and Yorkshire.
Bryan will be remembered fondly and missed terribly by so many, friends, family and colleagues.
Any donations to Bryan's memory will go to Northumbria Ringing Group (NRG) and Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre (NWT).
