    Story

This April, Joe and Elsie Bruton will be undertaking the Lizard to Land’s End Challenge, to raise money for Otjikondo Primary School in Namibia. They will be walking 50 miles of the South West Coast Path from Britain’s most Southerly point to its most Westerly point over three days and are hoping to raise over £500 to provide books for the library at the school.

Otjikondo is a primary school for approximately 240 children between the ages of 6 and 14 in the North West of Namibia. Pupils come from different ethnic groups and many come from simple but also difficult social backgrounds. Otjikondo gives them well rounded education and furnishes them with the skills and talents necessary for a successful future.

Otjikondo is dependent on donations and the Bruton family have been supporting Otjikondo for over 20 years. Catherine worked there as a volunteer in 1995 and has been involved in various fundraising initiatives and many of her pupils have gone to work at the school in gap years, whilst the family have been sponsoring a child at the school for twelve years. We will be visiting the school this summer and Joe and Elsie would like to make their own contribution to this amazing school.

They will be fundraising to provide books for the library at the school and are hoping to raise £500 for this worthy cause.

Between 10 – 12 April, Joe and Elsie will be walking 50 miles along the South West Coast Path from Lizard point to Lands End. They will be navigating rocky terrain, clambering over boulders, skirting along cliff edges and traipsing through slippery footpaths over precipitious terrain in all winds and weathers. They will brave blisters, blizzards and British weather to raise money for this valuable cause. This is a link to Otjikondo's website

Day 3.5 - Land's End ahoy! We werel not in the best shape this morning and Mummy waa accused of using 'photo opps' as a ploy for rest stops on big climbs! We ate the best pasties ever at Porthgwarra, posed on Demelza's beach at Porthcurno, and  finally hobbled to the famous signpost at Lands End   Then - after 3.5 days, 48.9 miles (kids) 33 miles (me) 26 miles (Jonny)  a new total of10 blisters (mainly Joe) too many slices of cake to mention (mainly medicinal) and over £850 raised for  Otjikondo ... we sat down and called a taxi!

Set off 8am in pouring rain along boring but easy sretch past Penzance. Sun came out for sandy picnic at Mousehole Then the most brutal and wildly beautiful bit of coastline yet - plunging contour lines, giant boulder strewn paths, precipitous climbs and cruelly deceptive distances (Joe blames Pythagoras theorum!) Joe declared he had trench foot. Elsie carried morale in the final two miles then nearly blacked out when we finally made the finish (dehydration or the smell of Joe's socks - you decide!) But ... Land'End 7miles!

Day 2 - Blisters, bogs, bunions and crumbling coast paths! Today Joe and Elsie walked from.Mullion Cove to Perranuthnoe, encountering a scary dog, seals, Poldark Mines and a Piskie Penny Pole! Very tired feet at the end of  8.5 hours of walking - needed ice baths and blister plasters plus lots of vaseline for chafed places! Thanks again for all the sponsorship for Otjikondo Primary School - and for all the messages of support! Early night tonight - in bed by 8.30pm!! https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/bruton-otjikondo
