I've raised £2500 to Southampton (Saints) Amateur Speedway Team - who are seeking funding to assist costs of re-establishing a not-for profit local track.

Speedway is a popular family orientated supporter based sport bringing drama, spectacle and excitement. Riders race 500 cc motorcycles, with no brakes, a fixed gearing on an oval shale surface track at speeds up to 70 mph - 0-60 in less than 3 seconds on a loose surface, with only F1 racing cars having comparable acceleration.
Southampton has a long established history with Speedway and Grasstrack related events. Many riders and supporters hail from the Southampton, and the surrounding areas of Portsmouth, Winchester and Ringwood.
The Southampton Saints Amateur Speedway club reformed in 2015 and is a growing expanding club, seeking to re-establish a permanent amateur track within the wider Southampton area on a not for profit basis.
This appeal is not just for a not for profit project, but to benefit the grassroots, amateur level of the sport, and bring something new, vibrant and constructive for the benefit of the local community.
This will benefit the Community with re-establishing the sport to a whole new audience, provide something for local enthusiasts to become involved in the sport further, and importantly provide an opportunity for local young people to experience a sporting project, a constructive outlet for their energies in building something for the area, learn skills in event management AND may even want to have a go at riding a Speedway bike for real.
At this time, land has been identified, that has presented itself suitable in terms of land viability, suitable size, good accessible road links and suited to a community project that will benefit particularly the young, but people of all ages in the local area.
In order to progress the plans to acquire and develop the identified site for a track, support is required. Donations and/or sponsorship is now being actively sought with regard to seeking Outline Planning Permission through the Local Authorities and the associated costs of such.
Independent reviews of the project and proposed site have indicated that this land and proposed use is viable to proceed further.
Important facts re this fundraising:
- It is undertaken on behalf of The Southampton Saints Amateur Speedway Club/British Amateur Riders League (BARL) Committee
- All monies raised are to support the legal costs for the preparation and presentation of an application for Outline Planning Permission.
- Any excess monies raised will be utilised by the BARL to progress any appeals (if necessary) or progress the approved Outline Planning Permission to the next phase.
- There maybe some limited additional expenses incurred through the fundraising platforms used (E.G. just giving) that monies raised may have to cover.
- If the original project becomes unviable or not achieved, any excess monies after that already used, and expenses associated will be available to proportionately return to donators unless they confirm their donation to remain as part of the ongoing project.
- Details of any events where additional fundraising will be sought will be advised accordingly. Or check through https://www.facebook.com/groups/1674635609448620/
- All donations and related expenditures will be accounted for within BARL annual submitted accounts.
- Every effort is made to comply with fundraising guidance and Crowdfunding Codes of Practice.
Any questions, please contact myself by email.
Happy to come along and meet any groups, clubs, societies, companies, potential sponsors to discuss the project further where it is appropriate.
