Story

Cycling Without Age – Bridport is raising money to buy it’s first trishaw and bring "miles of smiles" to the Dorset town. It is joining an international network of groups that involves trained volunteer pilots taking local elders and care homes residents out on ‘trishaw’ cycle rides to feel the wind in their hair, and bringing generations closer together.

The UK has a growing number of local chapters and Bridport Medical Centre, with the help of volunteers, is linking up with an existing group in Weymouth to bring the benefits to the town.

A power assisted trishaw costs £8000 and holds two passengers and boast a bell, a rain protector and a lowering platform to make it easy for people to get on and off. They are ridden by 'pilots', who receive special training.

The rides are comfortable, fun and free, and enable people to experience the town and nature close-up from the bicycle.

Cycling Without Age Bridport is in the planning stages and we fundraising for our first trishaw, but any extra raised will be put towards other equipment, training and even a second bike.

The Bridport chapter has been formed by staff Bridport Medical Centre and volunteers from Bridport Covid-19 Community Support, and is linked with the long established CWA Weymouth group.

We are having amazing support from local businesses and are looking for the remaining funds from the community to raise the money in time to buy a trishaw and start our first rides in August 2021.
