Donations in lieu of funeral flowers in memory of Alderman Brian Coates

Sadly on July 6th 2022 Brian succumbed to the terrible disease which is Mesothelioma. He was an amazing husband, dad, grandad, father-in-law and friend. He served the community for 20 years as ward councillor for Deckham as well as taking on the role of Deputy Mayor and then Mayor in the late 1990s. His Gateshead service continued with his role of chair and trustee of Gateshead Older Peoples Assembly, a position he held until June 2022.

Mesothelioma is caused by Asbestos and Readley Meso Support are working tirelessly to ensure we are all aware of the dangers of this shockingly common substance. Their support groups were greatly valued by Brian and his wife Sylvia. 50% of the proceeds of this fundraiser will go to Readley with the other 50% going to fund the amazing work going on at Gateshead Older People's Assembly.
