Story

Reaching out, for the children of the Upper Afan Valley.

If you’re not already aware, Neath Port Talbot Council have proposed the closure of Cymmer Afan Comprehensive School. This is a school that holds many fond memories, for past and present pupils. This school is a corner stone of the Afan Valley community, so it is vitally important that we do all we can to save our school.

When the schools federated 5 years ago, the Director of Education made a promise that Education would be safe in the valley for at least 10 years. Just 5 years later and we are presented with the closure of part of the Federation, namely Cymer Afan Comprehensive.

No one can question the performance of this School, being ranked the 6th best secondary school in the whole of Wales. It was a privilege for many past pupils who attended, we cannot let them take this privilege away for our future generations.

Too much has already been taken from the Afan Valley, it is time to stand together, strong and committed on what we believe is right. We remain confident that a well-aimed, well-founded campaign will deliver the results we need.

The challenge set, to help raise money for this great cause. Is to complete the three Welsh Peaks in 12 hrs, on February 10th 2018. As part of a 2 man team consisting of Brian Stokes & Geraint Goodridge. Our goal is to not just conquer the welsh mountains SNOWDONIA, CADIAR IDRIS and PENYFAEN, but to complete all three within this tough timeframe.

The money raised will be presented to treasurer of the save the school fund.
