Some five years ago John Tett had the original idea of organising a charity bus ride in aid of Alzheimer disease. John's sister-in-law, Huguette, had been diagnosed with the disease in 2007 and by 2014 the disease had developed to the stage when admission to a care home was inevitable. John's idea was to travel the length of the country to raise money for and awareness of the disease and other forms of Dementia which afflicts 850,000 people in this country alone.

On one of the rare occasions we happened to be in the pub on a Friday evening, the conversation escalated. Another close friends father was diagnosed with a very similar strand of the illness. John at this point told us of his original idea and one thing led to another….

“Brewood to Brighton on Buses and Bikes”

In a Top Gear style challenge there will be two groups making the trip, half on push bikes covering c240 miles and the others completing the journey using only public buses!

The trip will be over 4 days starting from Brewood on Wednesday 10 April 2019 and both groups will meet up each evening at set stops en route before finally reaching Brighton on Saturday 13 April where we will no doubt complete the journey by recapping over another beer or two in celebration of the achievement.

We will be fundraising for two charities and the money will be split equally between Music for my Mind and Cancer Research.

Music for my Mind. This charity was established two years ago with the sole aim of improving the quality of life experienced by those living with Dementia. It aims to develop personalised music play lists of the sufferers favourite music. It has long been known that familiar music calms and soothes those with dementia, but this is rarely available.
