Story

In the past year, have you:

Attended school or university past the 6th grade?

Been employed by the government, a private business, or NGO?

Visited a doctor, midwife or other medical practitioner?

Travelled more than 75km (46 miles) without a male chaperone?

Left the house with any part of your skin uncovered?

Played a sport or visited a park?

Had your voice heard in public, even by a passer-by?

Sung in your own home, or been seen through the window of your home?

If you were a woman in Afghanistan, you would not be able to do any of these things.

Women in Afghanistan are in crisis: prevented by the Taliban from almost every basic human freedom, causing unimaginable pain and suffering.

As a member of this bra-making community, I value and appreciate everything our community has to offer. Let's take the support we have for each other and do what we can for one of the most oppressed groups in the world.

Please donate to help these women.

Where your donations will go:

50%: Begum Organisation for Women. The BOW runs the Begum Academy, an online distance learning platform that helps girls educate themselves, and Radio Begum, a woman-led radio channel that provides educational and entertainment programming to approximately 3/4 of Afghanistan, including more rural areas. Radio Begum has recently been taken off the air by the Taliban, so they need all the help they can get to keep providing their services.

25% to Zan Times, 25% to Rukhshana Media. These are two women-led news organisations that focus on telling women's stories, as well as reporting on broader human rights violations by the Taliban. These are stories of both suffering and of resistance.
