Story

Tommy, the brain child behind Rock Steady Boxing Widnes is well know in our Kings Regiment & the army boxing circuit, maybe the name 'Mouse' might jog a few memories, where he beat a Para 'Rat'.

Tommy was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2013 and in 2018 he saw a Boxing Programme in the USA that was proving to slow down Parkinson's, he took action as he wanted to slow down the progression of the disease in his own body.He fundraised, got himself to the USA, became a qualified instructor, came back and the rest is history. He now holds 6 session a week, helping other sufferers like himself. Please continue to read... they are an amazing bunch of people.

The aim of the ‘Rock Steady Boxing’ programme is to provide fitness classes to enable Parkinson disease sufferers enhance their quality of life, build stamina, strength and speed, by exercising with coaches who know the ropes and understand the disease, enabling sufferers to fight their way out of the corner, start to feel and function better.

RSBW ideally would like a home to call their own, offering classes for all abilities, not just to box, but for example classes such as yoga, one to one, movement, to have a central hub where they can speak with other outside agencies that can help to maximize the mental, emotional and physical potential of people with Parkinson disease throughout their every day lives. This help will also filter down to carers, loved ones and family, to ensure their well being is also met. A hub/ Gym that supports total engagement in the Parkinsons Community.

Im a long distance runner so I thought I would set myself a challenge to help out a fellow 'Kingo'. I plan to run a 100 mile road run which will take place on the 11th June, it will be to all 4 main football stadiums in the north west starting at Anfield, then over to Goodson Park, then down the east lancs road to Man City and then over to Old Trafford he will then head back down the east lancs road to finish off at Anfield. On the 12th June (if my legs will let me) I aim to ride a 100 miles on my bike finish at the gym in Widnes, once there I will hop on the nearest rower and just for good measure row a further 10miles! Totalling 210 miles round trip! I didnt think this up on my own, Mally Kirk set the ball rolling! What have I let myself in for!

If anyone want to join me give me or Mal Kirk a shout! If not dig deep for this great cause.
