Here's the story of Blessings, a real little girl who lives in a place called Chaisa in Lusaka. These pictures were taken by Cllr Phiri who is the local Councillor there. Her area has a population of 60,000 and only one community school (the main picture for my page). Blessings life is an uncertain one. Her mother and father are both dead and her Grandmother looks after her. Her grandmother collects used water bottles and sells them for the only income coming in. Of course, since school costs money there is no school for Blessings. See the picture of the kitchen where the meager food is cooked on a charcoal burner. This is in the corner of the one room house they live in, to be honest in our terms it's a shed. There is no electric, water or sanitation in the house ,even the water from the local borehole is rationed.......and little hope, just day to day survival. Imagine how little expectation Blessings can have passed getting something to eat today. Blessings will be the first on the list for a school place and giving will give us the chance of something better for her, an education and a hot meal each day to start and then the future education can offer her.
