Story

In terms of background, Billy has been skiing since he was a little boy, spending the winter months in France.

His first full season of racing came in 2012, and in 2013 he was selected for TeamGB at the Junior Winter Olympics in Romania, and became British Under 18 Champion.

During 2014 Billy again represented TeamGB in the World Junior Championships in Slovakia and retained his title as overall U18 Champion by winning the junior Downhill, Super G, Giant Slalom and Slalom events.

In 2015 he again represented Great Britain in the World Juniors in Norway and despite some injury setbacks he won the British U21 Downhill and Super G titles. During 2016 he once more was selected for TeamGB for the Junior World Championships in Russia and became the Men’s Super G champion.

Billy became British Men’s Alpine Champion in 2017, podium finishes in ALL events in Men’s championships. Winner of Victor Ludorum trophy for best results by any male or female British skier. Team GB for World Junior Championships, Sweden. He then retained his British title in 2018.

This year he tried combining skiing with studying at university, and although he improved his world ranking to its highest level and was selected for TeamGB at the World Chamopionships in Sweden, he decided he could not do both.

He is now back skiing full time, as part of the British Europa Cup squad based in Austria. He has a dedicated team around him but unsurprisingly this comes at a cost. The squad receives some funding from GB Snowsport but the shortfall Billy has to personally contribute is over £33,000 per year. This goes towards accommodation, travel to races and training sites, salaries of coaches and trainers, and of course equipment.

Billy is a hard-working individual, known for being one of the first on to the training slopes and last off. He is described by his coaches as quietly spoken and modest, but highly competitive. Determination, commitment and luck will all play a part but he does need financial assistance.

At this point the 100Club Bikers are trying to raise as much as we can to help him buy new equipment for the coming season – he will need at least two pairs of boots and six pairs of skis, most for training, others specifically to race.

Billy does have the potential to reach the highest level, World Cup and Olympics, and if he does succeed, he will be a worthy representative for British sport. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.
