My Story.

Hi, my name is Betsi and I am 9 years old. Sadly, in November 2021 my life was turned upside down when I found out I was diagnosed with Cancer.

As you can imagine this has been extremely difficult to come to terms with for both me and my family.

I have a very rare form of cancer which is called Ewing Sarcoma this is an aggressive bone and soft tissue disease which mainly effects the legs, pelvis, arms and ribs. My case in-particular has stemmed from one of my rib muscles.

Due to the nature of this cancer my tumor grew behind my left lung very quickly which caused it to collapse. As well as my lung collapsing it pushed everything else in its way aside causing other issues.

Luckily for me my right lung on its own was strong enough to do the job of two.

I was placed under the care of the amazing Doctors and nurses of The Royal Marsden who worked together to design and plan my treatment - chemotherapy.

I was extremely scared.

I had heard things about cancer, but I never really understood what it was, but I knew it was bad. All my family told me to stay positive and I would be fine but it’s not easy when you hear that C word.

Since being diagnosed I have met many people and have had so much support from not only doctors and nurses but complete strangers too. I am just amazed by the help and support I get from them.

I even had a nurse tickle my belly to help me fall asleep because I was in so much pain. I can’t say thank you enough but need to do more.

I feel like I want to give back and help them as well as other children like me so I thought I would start raising awareness of me and my journey on Instagram @Betsiatthemarsden.

If you aren’t already, please please please follow me and share my page. I am doing this because I want to let other children know who find themselves in these kinds of situations to just keep smiling, because together with your chemo, a smile is the magic to make it work the best way it can.

I would like to raise funds that can be used to help other children in my situation with Cancer and try and make our life’s a little bit easier and keep us all smiling.

One thing I found that would give me a little smile was a nice pair of soft PJs so I would like to raise money that I can purchase some PJs for other children and give them a little something to smile about.

This also has given me the idea to design my own PJs something I have been working on from the early days of my journey that I also hope to explore with the help from people just like you x.
