Story
Our friend Benson Khamasi tragically died on 2 September after a violent mugging. Benson worked on a peacebuilding and nonviolence programme called Turning the Tide for the organisation AfriNov in Kenya. AfriNov is a longstanding and close partner of Quakers in Britain.
Benson was a loving husband, a father of three and a life-long Quaker. He was also a wonderful human being: deeply intellectual, warm and funny. His loss is a huge one for AfriNov, the communities he supported and all of his colleagues, to say nothing of his family and community.
Benson was involved in Turning the Tide from its inception in Kenya. He believed deeply in nonviolence and worked tirelessly for peace and social justice. He shared some of this experience with Quakers in Britain at Yearly Meeting in 2023 – telling us how his work, life and Quaker faith connected with truth and integrity, and the importance of challenging those in power to uphold justice.
Quaker friends are raising funds to support Benson’s family. Please donate if you would like to.
